Mississippi Burning

Looks like things are getting hot in Wilkinson County Mississippi. A county supervisor candidate has his house burned down as well as his wife roughed up by some sheriff's deputies during her arrest. According to some who were at the scene an ATV was set on fire and arson is suspected. Ms Smith was alone and a neighbor awakened her after seeing the fire. She escaped unharmed.

WOODVILLE — The home of one of the players in the controversy surrounding the Wilkinson County elections burned Friday morning.

The Lake Mary Road house belonged to Kirk Smith, a candidate for the board of supervisors district 2 seat, and Donna Smith, who was arrested after voicing concerns about absentee ballot counting at the counting site.

Wilkinson County Sheriff Reginald Jackson was unavailable Friday for comment about the charges relating to the arrest.

(Donna) Smith is reportedly out on bond, and a video of the arrest — captured by cell phone — aired on a Baton Rouge television station.

There have been accusations of voter fraud for years here and of course a lot of racial politics. Donna Smith was at the courthouse complaining about approximately 400 absentee ballots. The Justice Department and the FBI were in Woodville for the election. I know some people there and both black and white are pretty shook up
